Refurbishing Vehicle Speed Sensor (94-97 Accord)

Does anyone have any experience refurbishing one of these? I tried to remove the cover the other day and the plastic was wedged on their tight. I don't think it's serviceable by design. Can anyone confirm the plastic cover is removable? If not, any ideas on how to remove the cover would be appreciated.

Please limit discussion to ideas on how to refurbish or disassemble the vehicle speed sensor. Thanks

You can refer to this link regarding rebuilding:
VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor Troubleshoot, Repair, Replace - How To.

The VSS on the 5th gen Accord has 3 screws on top vs. 2 screws as shown for the VSS on the techauto site.

On Amazon right now, there is an aftermarket VSS for $8.40 + $4.99 shipping. Don't know how well the quality is though.

I"ve "rebuilt" a couple of VSS's but never reused them because new replacements were cheap and access to VSS (94-97 accord) is not easy.

I did "swap the guts" from an Accord VSS to an Acura 2.5TL VSS because the TL VSS was very expensive (> $100) and only difference w/ Accord was shape of the hard body frame. It worked fine.

I suspect part of the problem w/ VSS failures is grease accumulation on the pickup sensor face. This causes problems w/ ABS sensors and may affect VSS sensors, so be sure to clean the sensor pickup if you decide to "roll your own".

good luck

I have replaced the VSS on two accords before, same generation with VSS from junkyards.
Cleaned them and installed, no issues. The issue with these are all the dirt, oil, and grime reaches the VSS making them inoperable as stated above.
