replace belts on 93 Accord SE

The belts on my 93 Accord SE need to be replaced. Is this very difficult. I can do oil change and replace brakes easily, but am concerned about how to make proper adjustments and where to loosen bolts.

Also, for replacement belts, should they be Honda, or are after market belts OK. We're hoping to get a couple more years out of the car.

Thanks all for a great forum.

External drive belts are pretty normal to buy anywhere. If you're talking about the timing belt that's a different story...

I can't find a good picture of the belt tensioning. I think the PS pump pivots on one of it's mounting bolts, & the other bolt slides in a slot. Similar arrangement where the alternator swings on one of it's bolts.

Timing belt is a big job, but look for a thread in the DIY section. That one can really mess youup if it breaks. A really good belt isa lot cheaper than a new engine.

A 1/4" drive 10mm swivel is great to have for this job on the tensioner bolts for the ALT and P/S. Loosen the top and bottom bolts,[12mm&14mm] then turn the 10mm tensioner bolt.

Is the tension set by adjusting the bolts on the alternator? I know some belts have an automatic tensioner (maybe I'm thinking of the timing belt, but I'm not changing the timing belt), and I'm wondering if that should also be replaced.

Thanks for the picture.

Accord didn't have a spring-loaded tensioner until 2003 for the external belts.

Loosen the alternatormountingbolts, use the tension bolt to pull the alternator to a new position, then tighten the mounting bolts to lock it in it's new position.

Similar stuff for the power steering pump.
