Replacing brakes again!
 

I need to replace the rotors (again) on my '95 EX and am having some sticker shock over the prices at my local dealer. I've been told to avoid aftermarket parts due to the re-warping that can occur. I'm not looking for 3G decel here, just want some brakes with longevity so OEM (or equivalent) will suffice.

I've found a site that advertises OEM parts and the prices appear to be about 30% below the dealer's quotes. I was looking for recommendations based on both price and service.

Any advice appreciated!

What kind of quotes are you getting for replacing the rotors? The labor rate is high, because the hub/bearing need to be removed.

OEM rotors or Brembo are pretty good in my opinion.

The other option is to go do a hub over the rotor conversion. Then changing the rotors is very simple. In the DIY section, there is a writeup on this.

I think TASauto.com sell some kits to do this.

To do a re-surface and new pads (according to the dealer the aftermarket pads are the cause of the warping) will be approx $300. I have the ability but not all the tools to change these out but I do have access to a press if needed.

I have a real hard time paying that kind of money for something I can do myself. I also don't mind paying for the parts IF I won't have to be back in there again in 6 months. Kinda the "pay me now or pay me later" thing.

The best price I've found so far is $72 for the rotors and $58 for the pads. These aren't so bad but I'm wanting to get some feedback from here to see what my options are.

ask for a breakdown on the costs labor is high. Ive used the Autozone brand rotors on my 96 Accord and never had a problem they are pushing 100k.

Too add, my personal experience....I replaced the rotors, one hub bearing and pads on my 95 with parts from carquest ~4 years ago and almost 60k miles since then.....no issues (I don't drive much and easy on the system). Again, just my personal experience. I'm about due for pads, I'll check the rotor thickness and decide on those....maybe I was lucky, again just me :).

was quiiiite a shake fest. I looked like a line, did
a really hot torch go astray and put a hardened stripe
in the rotor?

Anyway I bought a 20 dollar breaker bar and did it my self.
pads looked ok over a 1/4 inch left on them. that
with the new motor mount, man she is smooth now.
