Resetting the idiot light..

Please forgive me if this has already been asked. I looked through the forum & didn't see it. I have an 07 Accord EX-L. We've had it since December, & my husband changed my oil about a month ago before he deployed. It was at roughly 15% oil life then. He couldn't figure out how to reset it, so we figured maybe it would reset itself, maybe it had a sensor or something. A month later it still hasn't reset itself. It's now showing -1 & 300-something whenever I crank it up. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to take it back to the dealership & have them reset it, or if I'm just completely lost & it's something simple that I haven't noticed yet.

I don't know how to reset it on your car, but I am sure that information is in the owners manual.

I didn't see anything about it in the manual, but I'll look through it again to be sure. Thanks.

If you mean the check engine light, a really simple way to resest is to pull the neg. battery cable, leave it off for about a minute (need to clear the computer) and install the cable. That should clear it for you!

Hi Mirgladd,

Try reseting the maintenance minder as follows:

Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position.
Press the Select/Reset knobrepeatedly until the engine oil lifeis displayed.
Press the Select/Reset knob forabout 10 seconds. The informationdisplay shows the resetmode
initial display (as shown in manual).
Select the ‘‘OIL LIFE’’ indicator by turning the Select/Reset knob.
The display begins to blink. Push the same knob to enter this setting.
The engine oil life and the maintenance item code(s) will begin to blink.
Push the Select/Reset knob and hold to reset. (make sure to hold)
The maintenance item code(s) will disappear, and the engine oil life will reset to ‘‘100.’’

That oil-life display does NOT actually measure anything about the oil, it just keeps track of time & miles & temperature & a bunch of other stuff. The display was at 15% when the oil was changed, but it wasn't reset. You have used 15% or 20% of the new oil, & NOW you reset the counter.

Since the new oil was already down to 85% or 80% before you reset the oil-life, next time you should change the oil when it gets down to 20% or 30%, don't wait for the warning light to come on. Then reset the oil-life when you change it.
