RPM surging when warm

I'm new to the fourm, looking for some input. I have an 02 Accord ex 4cyl auto. 90K, just had the timing belt/drive belt/water pump, and some other maintance done. I also have been having an issue with my RPM's surging from 750 up to about 3000 when the car is warm. EX: After a 35 mile commute, when I pull into the parking spot, the RPM will start to flucuate between previous stated #'s. If I shut the car off, then restart, it will shoot up to 3000, stay for about 30 sec, then start the up and down surging. the dealer cleaned the throttle body, reset the idle screw, but it still happens. Any input? Thanks in advance.

RE: RPM surging when warm

Your problem has to deal with how the throttle body regulates air flow when the throttle plate is closed. Accords through 97 had two air control valves, where the FITV was controlled by engine coolant temperature and that would cause the same problem that you are having.

The 98+ Accords have a different setup to control air flow into the intake, and I am not as familiar with the 6th and 7th generation accords.

#8 below controls air flow, but I'm not sure if this is the only air control valve. If you take off the intake hose, are there two ports outside of the throttle plate that allow air to bypass or is there only one?

I'll check after work and post later. Thanks

EDIT: I just talked with the Service manager, they think it may be the AIS motor. (I need to pull
my shop manual and check, i just havn't had the time, (just moved). I will check all tonight, going for a ride with the dealer in the morning to see if they can figure it out.

Thanks

Yeah, #8 is the IACV, or maybe the mgr is calling it an AIS motor? Beginning in '98 it's supposed to include the function of the FITV along with the function that the IACV always had.

RE: RPM surging when warm

It was the AIS motor. (My manual acutally calls it something else, but I can't remember at the moment. After they had cleaned the Trottle body, they had reset the computer, then, with my driving it for 2 days, it finally left a code. The motor was starting to short out, but wasn't bad enough to quit yet. So, it should be done this afternoon. thanks for the help.
