When I purchased my 2011 Accord in May 2017, it was a very well kept and serviced vehicle. The first owners spared no visits to the Honda dealership.

I was very surprised how well the tires looked I.e. lots of tread like new, no wear spots etc. However, when detailing the tires, I noticed a lot of dry checking on the sidewalks. Further investigation showed they were produced around June 2011.

Should I be concerned with regard to the rubber being so old? I called Goodyear and they said this was normal especially here in hot Columbia, SC. The tread looks new to me, I just don't like all those fine cracks in the sidewalls. I do notice they ride pretty rough as a Goodyear Triple Tread model. They are also pretty darn loud on the highway.

I just want to be safe and not have a blowout or something. Thanks.

 

From what I've heard, the tire age thing is about the rubber tread getting harder & how that makes less traction / more slippery.

 

Sounds like you should get new tires.

 

The highway noise probably isn't your tires it's the car. My 2009 Accord is very loud on the highway and I've bought new tires since buying the car new.
