Screwy 93 Auto Transmission Problem
Hi guys...I appreciate your assistance....Only in fourth gear (top) does this happen. At highway speeds while cruising the car will momentarily jerk or lurch as it seems as if there's a instantaneous dead spot. It continues on it's way until it unexpectantly happens again.
Also I have noticed at times just when I'm about to accelerate (again while at highway speeds) it quickly lurches again. It's very frustating as the car upshifts and downshifts in every other gear perfectly.
The fluid level is fine and the right color and it was changed 15K ago. This started happening about 8K ago. I am the second owner bought in 2000.
Any assistance or direction would be much appreciated...Thanks

There may be a transmission control unit (TCU) code stored. See DIY forum for how to check for Check Engine Light codes. It's same procedure except the D4 or S light will Flash TCU codes. Particularly true if D4 or S light is flashing, but code may be stored w/o flashing light.
good luck
good luck
When the fluid was changed, what kind of fluid did you use?
Does the D4 light start flashing when this happens? Have you checked for codes? See the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum. There is a link in there to check engine codes. Post any codes you find on here.

Thanks for the replies PA & Texas Honda....I have not checked for codes as I have never needed to in the past and don't own a code reader....
Also D4 does not flash when the jerk action occurs.... A reputable transmision shop did the drain and fill for me obviously knowing it was a Honda. Are you suggesting that a 1993 Accord requires Honda specific tranny fluid which would not have been used? I believe the manual just says to use DexronIII if I'm not mistaken. As mentioned this "slippage" if you will happened 8K-10K or so after the fluid change.
Any other suggestions....Thanks guys..

As a quick follow up guys, I just read the DIY for code reading as you suggested.
Hope this doesn't sound to stupid but 1) do you mean that under the floor matt somewhere on the passenger side is the blue two pin connector which I'm to short out 2) watch the actual D4 symbol on the tranny console as it will begin to flash the codes (should I darken the surroundings to better view)? I'm watching for long and short flashes of the D4 symbol?
Thanks for your patience...

Did they flush the trans or just change fluids/filter. If they did a full flush that may not have been a great idea ic it was never changed before. The old fluid had clutch material and such making it less viscous than tbe new fluid. The new more slippery (viscous) fluid may cause slippage. Ive been told by a couple ase certified mechanics that an auti trans way over service interavals is better left alone.
Robert 1991,
1) The fluid was just changed not flushed and it was changed as per specific Honda change intervals since new...it was not an extended change interval as you suggested...(Does a 91 Accord require Honda specific fluid as opposed to DexronIII ?)
2) I'm sorry but I don't follow your example. Are there long and short interval flashes or just one type of flash?... I do understand your "14" example but how does ffff5fffffff tie into that or mean on its own?
Thanks

It in not under the floormat
it is under the glovebox
put your head by the floormat and look up, you will see it
The D4 will flash, it is bright, you will see it
It is like Morse Code -
Long Flash = 10
Short Flash = 1
example - 1 long flash + 3 short flashes = 13
