Starting issues
Hello all, I have a 2004 honda accord ex 4cyl. Lately sometimes when i turn the key i will hear a strange noise coming from somewhere in the steering column or underneath it somewhere, it will make this noise and not start for a few times and twice it did not make any noise and not start at all, i dont think its the starter and the ignition was replaced about a year ago after my car was stolen. Is there a solenoid somewhere around inside the steering box or down by the fuses that could cause this? Or something else, thanks for your help

There is a starter-cut relay in the under-dash fuse/relay box. Possibly this is noise you are hearing.

Is it a replaceable relay? autozone and advanced have no listing for a starter-cut relay. its like a buzzing sound
|
Yes replaceable, that is why relay is in the fuse/relay box. Check cover lid for guidance on which relay. Pull relay and go to AZ to match or puchase OEM relay from Honda.

If you have an aftermarket alarm(especially viper which are notorious for this) your starter kill function could be malfunctioning. I had this happen myself and it normally happened after driving the car for a bit. Wired out the ignition kill and no issues since.

I ended up buying a ignition starter switch after searching on youtube about the "buzzing" sound when trying to turn the key. Someone shared a video on it and he tried the relay/fuse 1st=made no difference, than installed the starter switch and it cured the problem, he noted that the 2000+ models are know for this issue. Ill install mine this Saturday and post here whether it fixed it or not.
