VIDEO: steering wheel squeak when turning
Hi, the thread title says it all. On my 7th gen 6speed stickshift coupe the steering wheel makes some noise when I slightly turn it left and right.
Especially noticeable when in low speeds/parked. Talked to a mechanic and he says it is a 4 hour job to take the wheel apart and lube it and all the bushings. Is this something I could try doing myself, even though I am not very techically inclined? He said he can do it for $50 if I leave the car there for the whole day, but I'd rather do it myself if it is not too hard and if there is a tutorial out there (preferably video) or anything that would help. Thanks |
Not sure I've ever seen a "how to" on this......is the noise from the wheel or lower in the column?
|
i can'tt really tell where it is coming from :/ but it only does it when turning it slowly and only the first few degrees of the rotation
|
Well this could be fun :)
Does it do it all the time? Or does it only happen when the car has sat in the cold/hot for several hours and then goes away once the cabin gets to a "normal" temp?......yes I'm reaching here. |
it does it all the time.

I took a video of the issue, maybe that will make it easier for others to help me, here it is:
