Thumping From the Front End
Following an emergency braking situation, the car developed a thumping/vibration that keeps time with the rotation of the wheels. The sound is there during acceleration, coasting, and when the brakes are applied. What could be causing it?

RE: Thumping From the Front End
how hard did you brake? did the tires lock up completly? You could have burned a flat spot in the tire from high speed braking... was anything hit?

RE: Thumping From the Front End
Left alot of rubber on the road but didn't hit anything. Both sides of the axle thump at the same time so I don't think its the tires.

RE: Thumping From the Front End
you may have worn a flat spot in the tires from having to brake so hard.... jack up the front end and rotate the tire by hand, keep your hand on the tire and see if it feels completely uniform.... also if it doesn't make any noise there then you know it has to be something with the tire, you may want to take them in to get the re-mounted/balanced if that's the case....

RE: Thumping From the Front End
I already had the tires remounted to see if that was the source of the thumping. Nope. Still there. What are some other possibilites? If I were trying to locate it (while driving), it almost seems like its coming from the center rather than near the tires.

RE: Thumping From the Front End
slim chance that it's a broken motor mount...

Now that's interesting....I'll check it out.

RE: Thumping From the Front End
I jacked up the front and put the car into gear. No thumping. Everything looks tight. So, I thought about your first suggestion about the hard braking causing a flat spot on the tires. Since the tires are only three months old I didn't think that was the problem. But watching the wheels rotate you could tell they were out of round so I switched them to the back wheels. I drove it around a bit and the thumping is gone. Time to go have a chat with the outfit that sold me the tires. Thanks for your help.
