Timing belt
Hi y'all,
I have an '03 EX V6 with about 71K on it.I just bought it and as I was reading the manual,I see that the recommended timing belt change on the V6 is for 60,000 miles??? I thought that 60K thing went out the window a loooong time ago,no?I thought an '03 timing belt would be good for 100K or more? What's the deal? Thanks |
RE: Timing belt
I have never seen an 03 manual but are you certain that it says timing belt at 60,000 miles? That would be the first I've ever seen of it...

RE: Timing belt
Somebody correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't that 7th gen accords have a timing chain which should last the life of the vehicle?
|
RE: Timing belt
if it does have a timing belt then it should be replaced around 90k. if it has a timing chain then kudos that lasts the life of the car.

RE: Timing belt
It's the K-series 4-cylinder engines that have a timing chain. He said that he has a V-6.

ORIGINAL: JimBlake It's the K-series 4-cylinder engines that have a timing chain. He said that he has a V-6. Oohh...my bad, thanks for correcting me JimBlake. Just out of curiosity why is their a chain in the i4 and v6 has a belt? |
RE: Timing belt
on the t-belt replacement a lot also has to do on your driving habits ,, do you do mosly city driving ??
if you do i would replace the t-belt at around 75k miles ,, if you do mostly hwy driving i would replace it closer to 90k miles , The reason being that i would replace it at 75k if you do mostly city driving is that ,, when you are stopped at traffic lites or behing traffic the odometer does not go up but engine is still running , thus t-belt and the odometer do not have the same amount of miles on it .. when replacing the t-belt, replace the water pump and the hydraulic tensioner as well |

RE: Timing belt
Thanks to all.My owners' manual definitely states on page 302 that TB recommended change is for 60K. Funny though.I really, really think I heard a Honda tech tell me,even before I had this car, that the newer Hondas TB's are good for an easy 100K.I just bought this car from Carmax. We'll see soon what they did or not before they sold me this car.Probably the bare minimum within their requirements."Let the buyer beware." I will report back eventually.

RE: Timing belt
You'll see a lot of people here (including me) who say timing belts go 90k miles. But speaking for myself, I only have 4-cylinder cars so I didn't pay too much attention to the maintenance schedule for the V-6.
