Timing Belt

Hi,

Do you guys know how important it is to replace the timing belt at 105,000 miles as suggested by Honda. One of the mechanics I know said it's not really necessary and timing belt can be replaced if at all it fails.

Thanks in advance.

So let me get this clear... He told you to replace the belt only when it breaks?

Honda's have interference engines, meaning if it fails.........your engine gets royally screwed, we are talking at the very least bent valves, possible even rods.

Just do it.

OK. Time to replace timing belt and mechanic!!! :-)

What do you guys recommend about parts? Should I buy genuine Honda timing belt from a dealer and get it installed outside? Or should I get the part and installation at the Honda dealer?

I'm just trying to save some money but at the same time don't want to compromise on quality. Thanks guys....

RE: Timing Belt

I would get a Honda belt, but not do it at the dealer, as dealer prices are through the roof these days(my local Honda dealer is $100 a hour which is insane). The mechanic I use when I need stuff done is $50 a hour, but its getting harder and harder to find people that do good work for that cheap. His price may have even gone up by now as I havent needed anything done that I havent been able to do myself for a while.
