Timing belt - got stuck. Any suggestions?
 

Hey guy, I'm in the middle of replacing my timing belt, and I bought the eric the car guy video and I've been using that as a guide. It's been pretty smooth sailing so far, but I got stuck today when I couldn't get the top timing cover off. Mine is a 92, and the bottom lip is stuck under what I think is part of the motor mount bracket? I took a picture and circled the timing belt cover in blue and what it's getting stuck under in red. I've tried everything to get it out of there, and nothing seems to work. In the video he has a newer model I think because it doesn't have this issue. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get that sucker out??

have you moved that wiring harness to see if a bolt is down there?
it is just plastic, pull it, if a piece of it breaks it is really no big deal.
I have seen 100's of Honda's running with no timing belt cover at all.
If you break a piece of yours off either super glue, duct tape, or just leave it off.

I do not want to be too negative as I respect that you are trying to do something new by yourself but removing the plastic timing belt cover is about the easiest part of the job. I wish you good luck in completing the task.

yea there's no other bolt it's just wedged in there. I just didn't want to force it any more than I had to. guess ill just yank it out. no pun.

I can't tell squat from that photo.

Thanks for the reply. I read your documentation (which was very well done, by the way) and I think what I need to do is remove the motor mount before I can get that top timing cover off. On a side note, the car has 213k miles, and I don't think the timing belt has ever been changed; it's got at least one crack for every valley in the belt, and looks like it's about ready to die. I'm really glad I decided to do this before I start driving it.

with that many miles it was a very smart idea to change it.

let us know how it goes. I paid a local mechanic to change mine (at his home as a side job) but next time I am going to do it myself.
