Tire Pressure Monitoring System issue
2009 Honda Accord 4 cyl auto trans LX Bought recently and TPMS idiot light is on full time. Two things that I know happened: 1. Previous owner put new 2017 tires and wheels on it. 2. Previous owner put aftermarket Kenwood stereo with display in it and might have had no where to hook up TPMS. Problem: using buttons on steering wheel could calibrate TPMS if original equipment were installed but cannot calibrate with aftermarket Kenwood equipment. Question: can I calibrate it somehow and, if not, can I disable the TPMS idiot light? Thanks, Bill |
I'm not certain about this, but I think 2009 Accord TPMS uses pressure sensors in each wheel. But 2017 Accord TPMS doesn't have wheel sensors; instead it uses speed differences measured by the ABS wheel sensors.
So when the previous owner installed the 1017 wheels, he might not have installed sensors in them...? |
Thank you, Jim. That may be the issue. If so, I assume the wheels/tires will have to be broken down, sensors installed, reinflated and the calibrated to the car system. I appreciate your input. Bill |
Yeah, you might have a shop confirm that's true about 2009 vs 2017.

Yeah I have an '09 and there's a sensor in every wheel from what tire shops have told me.

Take to a tire shop and they will use a wireless wand to confim is the sensor is present. Our local guy charges 25 for sync new sensors..some will say only the dealer can do it but i just did my 12 civic..
