So I am new to the forum, I have owned my 1999 Accord for almost two years, and now I am starting to have problems with the transmission. I have a four cylinder and the automatic transmission. It just recently started to shift a little late, it seems to rev a little higher than normal. I have read that my transmission seems to be one that has had problems. I have 105,000 miles on the car. Would changing the transmission fluid help or would that just be a waste of time?

Changing it would be a good thing to do every 30k or 40k miles. Just drain & fill, don't do a POWER FLUSH.

Get 3 quarts of actual Honda ATF, it seems to make a difference. The torque converter doesn't drain, so only about 1/3 of the total fluid drains out. If it comes out dirty, then drive around for a couple days & do it again. And again until it comes out clean.

How much is this going to help?

I don't know. Auto trannys from '98 to '02 have been problems. Some people have kept the fluid clean & made it last. Sometimes they just die anyway.

To change the fluid, I just have to drain it from the bottom? Where do I fill it up at? Do I need new plugs?

For the 4-cylinder auto tranny...
Look under the bumper from just in front of the right-front tire. On the bottom of the tranny, about a foot forward of the axle, the drain plug faces to the right side of the car. It's got a square hole so you use a 3/8-drive socket wrench without a socket.

The drain bolt has a soft aluminum washer that you can replace (cheap at the dealer).

Fill thru the tranny dipstick hole.
