transmission Fluid Level Check

Honda Accord LX 94

What is the correct procedure for checking the proper level of transmission fluid? Do I need to start the engine? Does the transmission have to be in park or drive?

From the shop manual it looks like the engine needs to be warm. Put in park, turn off engine. Pull out dipstick, then wipe off. Reinsert, then remove to check the level.

This info may also be in the owner's manual.
