Transmission problem
I have a 1993 Honda Accord with an automatic transmission and sometimes when I am driving in D4, it takes off in either 2nd or 3rd gear and stays in that gear anddoesn't shift out of that gear. I have replaced the trans computer and it doesn't seem to affect the problem.

RE: Transmission problem
Short the service check connector (2 wire blue connector, under glove box) and check whether a code is flashed by the D4 light. Some AT codes don't cause the D4 to blink so you will not be aware of the code. For instance code 6 has symptoms "fails to shift other than 2nd-4th gears. It is caused by fault in the shift position console switch.

RE: Transmission problem
follow texas advice and post the code here ( if any )
also in frt of the tranny there are 2 solenoids shaped like cones,, therer are connectors to them,, remove the connectors, make sure that they are clean and tight,, remove both solenoids there are 3 10mm bolts on each, remove the metal screen , if there is a lot of metal or fiber filing tranny could be toast,, .. get some carb cleaner, clean the screen , spray a bit ( not too much ) in the passages in the tranny ( below the solenoids) , get some compressed air and blow in the passages , put it all together and try it |
I was listening to Car Talk about a transmission computer shifting problem and they suggested checking the ground connections. If no problem there is found, they suggested running a new ground wire from the firewall to the engine block.
