Trunk popping problems

I appologize in advance for the lack of information. I am trying to fix my girlfriends car and only have the more obvious details. She has what appears to be a 94 accord. When she tries to pop the trunk with the lever on the inside it unlatches but doesn't pop up at all. In other words, you can only open the trunk of a second person is present to pull up on the trunk while she engages the lever inside the cabin.

Has anyone dealt with this sort of issue before? What mechanism is responsible for pushing the trunk out of the way of the latch when you open it?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

The trunk should release w/ the inside release, but trunk does not "pop-up", at least it doesn't on my 94 EX. I have to lift w/ some effort, but it will stand open once fully open.

There is a wire to the trunk release from driver's floor lever. It may be the trunk lock needs adjusting (position) slightly to enable full release w/ latch. Suggest to start by simply clean/lube everything on the trunk lock/latch assy.

good luck
