Tune Up

Hey guys, I was thinking about getting a tune up on my car. What should a good tune up include and how often should I get one? Thanks.

In your owners manual there's a table of maintenance items & when they should be done. Check that out, especially try to figure out if anything has been skipped.

Usually a "tune up" consists of new spark plugs & maybe adjusting valve lash. And go buy a can of your favorite fuelinjector cleaner (Chevron Techron or whatever) & put it in the fuel tank.

I'm pretty good with having my car serviced on time and I have it done at the dealership, so I doubt they would skip over any necessary maintenance. Changing the spark plugs is definitely on my to do list.

In regards to the tune up, which I want primarily for improved performance. So in addition to your suggestions, would a change in the ECU settings be a good way to go? I know with Hondas, that the stock ECU settings tend to be very conservative and restrict some power from the engine. Is this a viable option, especially with my car inspection coming up. Thanks for your help.

IMHO- Unless you are going with some other mod's on the car, the expense of getting a "chipped" ECU and having it tuned (or some you can do yourself if you know what you are doing) isn't worth it.....Keep the ECU stock.

Also know that the 97 is ODB-II which adds even more to the ECU "change/tune".
