tweak the timing?
I had the timing belt replaced on my 96 accord 2.2 non vtec and all seems normal. the engine has 211k and i thought it could use some tweaking of the ignition timing for better 'pick up' after reading different articles on the web i am seeing the ignition timing is NOT adjustable? is this true?

Pretty sure that the dist is not adjustable on the 96 and up Accord 4 cyl.

The spark timing doesn't come from the distributor anyway. That comes from a sensor down at the front crankshaft pulley.

To the OP, it is highly unlikely advancing the timing will improve acceleration; what is more likely, if you were to figure out how to perform the advance, is you would induce detonation during acceleration, and left unchecked long enough, said detonation will damage your engine. |
The 96 accord was the first OBD2 accord and the distributor housing should have holes instead of slots. The PCM on the OBD2 accord takes several inputs and electronically adjusts timing.
Up through the 95 model, the distributor had slots on the housing where it bolts to the engine. You could adjust the angle of the distributor to set the base timing by disabling the ECU from adjusting timing. This was done to make sure the ECU could advance/retard the timing within a designed range. |

I did mean to say, 'set the base timing up' The distributor mounting holes looked slotted, I'll double check tomorrow Thanks fellas! |

Thanks, that is what I was wondering.
