Default V6 trans interchange ???

So I am a mopar guy and was recomended by a Moparts.com member to ask about swapping some honda trannys on here.

I have a wrecked 99 Acura TL with a good trans and am thinking about buying my wife an 01 Odyssey with a bad trans. They look the same in the rigs and I am hopeing I can put the TL trans in the Odyssey. I worked at a Honda dealer 4.5 years and never got into swaps other than whatever trans the parts guys handed us based on VINs. We did TONS of this style trannys but there may have been little differances I never noticed. The JYs say they are the same only different and they don't know what is different, just that they are different. Mabey it is just a matter of swapping a couple sensors or... ?

Thanks for any help!

I'll be honest, I don't really know.

I'm guessing you are right that there are some differences in sensors/locations.

Sorry I don't have a better answer.

Well I have found out the only differance is a slight differance in the final drive gear ratio. I have not got a conclusive answer that everything will be happy if I put it in. I had one junk yard out of about 10 I talked to tell me it would be OK except the speedo may be off a tiny bit, the others say it won't shift and most just have no clue.

"pretty" sure the speedo will not be an issue - VSS sends the signal.

Shift points are controlled by the computer so again you should be fine.

Let us know how it works out, the next person that searches will then know what became of this

yes it will work. the TL uses the J32 and the odyssey uses the J30. The transmissions from the J30, J32, J35 are interchangeable.

Just thought I would update you guys... I went ahead and put it in, works great and I did not even change any sensors, I also figured since the 3.2 looked exactly like the 3.5 and had 1/2 the miles I would put it in at the same time with the Odyssey computer and harness, it runs great, the power drop is barely noticeable but it is getting slightly better MPG now and that is far more important to me. Now I have got to find a 3.0 accord with a blowed up engine to put this spare 3.5 into!

nice thanks for updating us!

Doing so is what makes this forum a more powerful resource.

Glad it worked out for ya, where did you find the additional swap info?

So how does this direct bolt on? Example:J30a1 (motor) what auto transmissions are plug and play and which would need more and what is more?

You would need a 4-Speed automatic from a J30A1 equipped Accord or Odyssey, or even a first year 2G Acura TL with the J31A1; once you find the transmission, it should bolt in and plug in exactly as the original unit.

So can they be built to hold better? Or can others be converted like the manual transmissions?? Sorry I’m really curious
