Valve adjustment on 2006 4cyl Accord
 

I own a 2006 4cyl Accord. I was reading some of the service minder info on the Honda site and it keeps refering to "adjusting the valves if noisy" This is my first Honda and was wondering if adjusting the valves is a routine maintenance. If so how often and is it something I can do myself.

A little of both. Its routine maintenance as well as something you can do. All you need is a feeler gauge, a socket wrench for the valve cover, another socket wrench for the rocker lock nut (box end wrench will help a little), flat head screw driver, knowledge of the clearance for intake and exhaust valves. dont know the wrench sizes needed off hand, and i know the clearance for 98 to 02, it could be different on an 06 but im not sure.

and 30000 miles if necessary, basically if you hear the valves clicking louder then normal.

it is definately something you want to do at least every 30000, and i would not recommend doing it yourself. but i bet at a lot of shops, they really couldnt be trusted to do a better job than you.

I am pretty comfortable around cars. I have adjusted valves on VW's many times but my last several cars had hydrolic lifters. This is my first Honda and was not sure if they needed routiine adjustment.

Supposedly they should not need adjustment unless they get noisy. However, a Honda Master Tech I know adjusts his every 30K as lightshow mentioned.
They haven't been out of adjustment yet but he feels it's better to be safe than sorry.

started working on Hondas in 1980.... worked in dealership in Wisconsin for 8 years. moved to AZ worked at dealership for 8 years ,,Opened up my own shop 10 years ago, still going strong,, we specialize on Hondas and acuras
