2003 Accord EX, 2.4L, 110k miles Do these engines, in this day & age, need to have their valves adjusted? Any symptoms to listen for? - LVP

 

Every 100k miles on that car, at least to CHECK the valve clearance. Symptoms would be clicking sounds if the valves are loose. Too tight & they don't make noise until a valve burns through...

Non-hydraulic lifters can have better operation at higher RPM, so it's a trade-off the engine-designer decides about.
