Default Valve Adjustment - 99 V6

I try to do all my own work and am about to do a valve adjustment on my wife's 99 Accord 3.0L V6. I downloaded a PDF of the procedure and it says I need to remove the intake manifold. Really??? Do I have to do that? Then I will need a gasket for that as well as the valve covers. Does anyone know for sure?

Well, I think the intake covers part of the valve cover.....might be able to "wiggle" them out from under it.......but I'm thinking it will get hung on the intake side.....but I've been wrong before.

Bummer. Ok, thanks. I guess I'll know soon because I'm going to get into it this afternoon. Guess I should pick up an intake manifold gasket just in case.

Better safe than sorry....if you don't need it you can return it..EDIT: and I think you just need the plenum gasket, not the whole intake set......let me know what you find out, as I said I've been wrong before....

Ok I'm done. You DO have to remove the intake manifold because there's a valve cover bolt that can't be accessed unless you do. So, anyway, the valve clearances were fine. I only checked the front bank and they were all fine so I didn't bother with the rear. But, now my Power steering pump is whinning. I did use it to rotate the motor for checking the valves. I rotated it a smidgeon the wrong way at first, then the rest of the job I went the correct way. That's the only thing I did around that pump. Any ideas what happened? The steering works fine but it's whinning. Fluid is full. What the??? New pumps are $200 and I'll get one if I have to but I'm thinking "Hey, it's whinning, but it's working, so leave her be." Thoughts please?

Did you move the hose at all? Some of the newer Honda's have an issue where the o-ring will cause this........FWIW, there is a 19mm (?) bolt in the crank that works better for this.....two bolts and a ~$1 o-ring might be worth a shot???? Besides that I'm out of ideas....and it you do replace it (I know what my wife would tell me, she hears everything in the car and TELLS me all about it, not a bad thing), either a rebuilt or spend an afternoon in a bone yeard.
