Vtech in where a ULEV Vtech was

HELP. Put a non-ULEV Vtech in for a ULEV vtech. Now motor will start and that is about it. What do I have to change and where to start? Thanks. All help appreciated.

I am not familiar with the differences between the ULEV and the non-ULEV engine.

Inspect the differences between the two engines. Hopefully the engine block and cylinder head are identical, and you will just have to swap the sensors.

You may want to check the engine error codes to see what problems the ULEV ECU is detecting.

FIY: You probably should have installed an ULEV engine to make the swap simpler.

Thanks< unfortunately I cant pull up the link from the Honda site. Guess I will try a ECM and wiring harness for a non- ulev. It runs but at high idle and revs up and down.

I would recommend trying to work with what you have first. The guy in the other thread sounded like he had a couple of connectors switched.

Due to the immobilizer, if you tried another ECM, you would need to get it programmed by the dealer or an independent shop that has the equipment and software.

Did you swap the exhaust manifold from your ULEV engine to the replacement engine? If not, swap the exhaust manifold, and then use the Air/Fuel (A/F) ratio sensor from the ULEV engine to the replacement engine.

The non-ULEV uses a regular primary oxygen sensor, whereas, the ULEV uses the A/F ratio sensor. The ECU needs the A/F sensor to run properly.

You already have the ECU for the ULEV and the catalytic converter for the ULEV, so it should only be a few minor things to use the non-ULEV engine in your car.

For the revving up and down, have you checked the coolant level? Also, try to purge any air pockets that may be trapped in the cooling system.

There's a bunch of changes in the wiring harness and the ECU is VERY different.

You're better off using your ULEV exhaust manifold and front O2 sensor. That way you can turn the non-ULEV engine into a ULEV.

Thanks, working today, will try the exhaust manifold tomorrow.
