Water Pump Install

Just curious if one is supposed to install the water pump with honda bond or a film of silicone, or install it dry with nothing but the new seal??

I used a small amount of silicone lube on the oring. No RTV sealant is necessary.

good luck

I use just enough on the water pump to "hold" the o-ring as you install it. You want to hold the o-ring in place as you mount the pump to the block....that is all you need.

Just enough of what? Honda bond or grease??

Poorman meant a little bit of honda bond on the water pump, then lay in the gasket. Like a dab in the middle of each side. Do not put Hondabond (or RTV) between the gasket and the engine block, because the next person to replace the water pump will not have a good day.

If your gasket stays in the groove without any sealant and won't fall out, then don't use anything.

Watch this video. This is for a transmission pan, but you will get the point.

There is a gasket adhesive spray made by 3M (I think) that will prevent the gasket from falling out.

Most water pumps have retainer tabs around the groove.

good luck
