what weight oil?

I have a '99 Accord 4cyl, with 148k miles, uses about a quart every 3000. I've always assumed I should use 5-30 wt, but a mechanic friend tells me 5-20. What shoiuld I use? fwiw, I use Mobil 1. Thanks!

Use what the manual tells you to use: 5W-30. I have the same car and use the same oil with more mile, but she doesn't drink that much-

Honda changed their minds about oil. Retroactively back to 1998 they want you to use 5w-20. So your mechanic is technically right.

Even knowing that I kept using 5w-30 while we owned our 1998 Accord. I think the only reason was fuel economy.

are you using mobile 1 synthetic or conventional? synthetic oil burns faster than conventional, a quart every 3000 miles isnt exactly an alarming rate, i'm doing good if i can get 300 miles on a quart of oil.

if you reside in a cold winter climate use 5w-20 in winter and 5w-30 in summer,, if you reside in a mild winter climate use 5w-30 all year around

Started with 5w-30 in the first 100k miles, been using 10w-30 from spring to fall, 5w-30 in winter, with a quart of Lucas oil additive

My car has 277k miles

Mobil 1 oil IS synthetic. Mobil non-synthetic oil has different names like Drive-Clean 5000 or whatever.
