Will my timing chain break and destroy my engine?
 

Car: 2009 Honda Accord 2.4l 4cyl lx
Miles: 155,000

I bought it at 110,000 miles and missed multiple oil changes multiple times in the past 45,000 miles driven.

I have very loud timing chain slack noise that turns off the engine at low speeds and it very loud at startup.

Is it ok to try and tighten the chain or do I have to but a whole new chain set and atc actuator and water pump?

When the auto-tensioner runs out of travel, there's no more "tightening" the chain. It might be the chain guides are broken making more rattling? Or a loose chain from worn pins in the chain from lack of oil. Either way, you need to get in there & deal with it before it skips timing & ruins your engine.

Are you getting a 0341 code?

The noise at a cold start up could be something else, there are TSB's on this issue. If the chain is stretching, you should be getting a code - 0341.......Totally on memory on this one so take it for what it is.
