2004 v6 headers??
I have a 3.0l 04 coupe. I've put on a full exhaust system paired with a CAI. My next idea was to get headers has anyone done this on the v6?

When you say "full exhaust" - did that include an upgraded J pipe?

You might do some reasearch on the J Pipe. I'll admit I get confused on the different gen's and set ups. I'm thinking the J pipe will be a better option than the actual exhaust manifold/headders.
Of course I'm I going on bad memory. |

The 2004 V6 has the exhaust ports flowing together inside the cylinder-head itself. So all you can do starts from what I'd call the "3-into-1 collector". See the drawing of a cylinder head. The part you'd call a "header" is inside the head.

There are no headers available for the J30a4/5 or most of the J series engines (other than the J30a1) because the manifold is cast into the head. Best we can do is precat deletes and an aftermarket J-pipe. I have the XLR8 v2 J-pipe which also eliminates the 3rd cat (which will not give you a CEL because it isn't monitored) and the gains are very noticeable. On a TL Type S, it picked up 19 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque, so figure on maybe 15/25 on a J30. Whatever it was, I could definitely feel it.
Precat deletes (rv6 makes them) are supposed to be worth another 8-10 hp, and they do have extenders welded in for the O2 so most people don't get a CEL. But, you can't pass a visual inspection or a tail pipe sniffer test with the deletes. Plus they do make the exhaust raspy so you'd need to add an additional resonator to the exhaust system. |
