i cant really see that well from the picture but i think you talking about the box under the car, i belaive its there to make the car more quiet. Anyway you can take it out. I think they call it the resonator. also i think it helps from water getting sucked in from the intake on stock intakes.

It's the box directly behind the battery. Under the intake pipe, but not under the fenderwell.
what do i do with the sensor wire and connector? Can i just leave it alone?

Looks like some kind of sensor...IAT?

is it on the way? it doesn't seem to bother much..... just leave it there... must be the airbag sensor or some other sensor.... if it's not directly on the way, leave it there... good luck!

it is in the way, i took it out and no CEL. just strange idle. Im thinking ill disemble the sensor from the box and mount it somewhere else where I can still run the vacuum lines. can you tell by my typing that im tired? lol

thats what you're suppose to do. i ran into the same problem on my 95. disconnect the vacuum line from the box, drill a hole in the rubber part of the cone and run the disconnected vacuum line into the newly drilled hole. then mount the rest of the sensor somewhere else. and no, it isn't the IAT sensor, i dunno what this one does, but the IAT sensor is directly behind the intake manifold and it detects the intake air temp. good luck :D
