muffler rattle??

I got my new muffler put on with custom piping from the cat back. It sounds....ok. Well i have one problem, when i first start it up and drive it for a little bit, when i get to 3000-4500 rpm's, it kind of sounds like a cheap exhaust and i feel like a fake ricer haha. But anyways, after i drive for awhile, it kind of goes away, or it just comes and goes. Does anyone know what's going on? Is this fixable or am i just going to have to live with it?

It seems that 3000-4500K is the resonance frequency of the pipe. Had the same problem with my 97 when I replaced it with an aftermarket B-pipe. I actually went back and bought a factory OEM B-pipe and exhaust. I don't know anyway to get rid of that besides just replacing it.

Why would it do it sometimes but not all the time? It randomly does it.

About the muffler, after it seems like the car "warms up" it doesn't make the sound, but then after i let it sit for awhile and it "cools down" it'll make that sound for awhile then stop again, does anyone know what is going on???

i would double check all of your joints and holdings. i know that can be a big help. also i put a magnaflow with 2.25" piping in it and it would rattle so much it would start hitting the heat shield. have a friend rev the engine and you stick your face to the side of the car and watch your pipe and see where it hits if it does just take some pliers and bend away where it hits. i also have a friend who drives a civic and he ripped his shield completely off.

Can i just take the shield off anyways? what does it do their anyways? Is it necessary for anything?

My muffler used to rattle around a lot too, I have a custom 2.25 Magnaflow. My buddy and I noticed that when I was driving around the muffler was bouncing around all over the place, and was really loosely coneccted. We just jacked the car up, and re-welded some of the hangers so that they would hold the exhaust tighter and higher. Also we realized that not all the hangers were being used, so we added some, and this seemed to fix the problem. No more rattle, and no more muffler breaking sounds over speed bumps lol. I dunno if this helps, but I mean you might want to check it out. Also, I don't have a heat sheild on my '99 lol, but I'd check to make sure yours isn't protecting the gas tank.
