Upkeep for K&N CAI?

I am still learning at this topic of modding, and i saw someone mention this in another forum. I understand that you have to oil the filter for a K&N CAI, but you do not for an AEM CAI. Is this true, and how often do you have to oil the K&N?

If you have the Dryflow AEM you do not have to oil it, but you have to clean it every once in a while with a cleaning kit they sell for it. I just put one on but I'm not sure how often you need to clean.I'm sure the AEM & K&N recommend about the same intervals. I would figure maybe every 10k miles or so...maybe longer.

man, i wouldn't want to have to oil my intake all the time. maybe i will just get the AEM dryflow filter then put it on the K&N CAI. that would probably be the easiest thing to do.again, if anyone has a K&N CAI, can u let me know if the upkeep of it is annoying or not (oiling, cleaning, etc...)? thanks!

I have the K&N full CAI where it starts down under the driver's side light. It was a bit pricy, but the sound is awesome. I noticed a little gain in performance, especially when the vtec kicks in. I haven't heard of all this upkeep you guys are talking about. I only know puddles are your worst enemy. must watch out or hydrolocking will happen....ouch.

ok, thanks! yeah, i heard the upkeep isn't bad...a local shop can do it for you easily, and do it nice and thorough for cheap (oil and clean). but i will keep an eye out for puddles once it is installed! thanks again.

If you are going to swap out to an AEM Dryflow filter anyway, why not just buy a cheap CAI off of ebay and slap on the AEM Dryflow filter like I did? Or if you want to spend the money on brand name, why not get an AEM V2?

RE: Upkeep for K&N CAI?

yeah, i was looking at the AEM V2, but iwill probablyjust end up keeping the whole K&N CAI w/ the filter and just deal with the oiling situation. it should not be too bad, plus i have personal contacts with experience with a K&N CAI and they love it. so unless the oiling thing turns out to be a pain, then i will just stick with the entire K&N CAI. thanks for the suggestion 00AccordLX5spd!

p.s. i posted another thread about CARB exemption. thats why i might not get the intake. i think it is not CARB exempt, which i need it to be.
