1998 Honda Accord losing coolant out of the tailpipe
Some background. I use this car for deliveries for about 60 miles a night. First the car would hesitate after about 20+ miles. I looked through some Youtube videos and removed the Intake Air Valve (IAV) and cleaned it. This seemed to work for a few nights. I noticed the coolant was low and added about 1/2 gallon. Seemed wired, no apparent leaks. Later it overheated. The car ran very bad and stalled. Towed it home. I found a heater hose was leaking and fixed it. Now I have white smoke and water (coolant) coming from the exhaust. The car runes fine when the engine is cold. When the coolant level gets low and the motor gets hot, the car runs very poorly again.
I removed the IAV when the motor was worm and had steam puff from it and noticed some moister in it. Could this be the problem or could it be something else like a head gasket? Also there is no water in the oil. |
Description of problem suggests leaking head gasket. You can remove spark plugs and turn engine over. If coolant is ejected from spark plug holes, head gasket leak is confirmed.
