Who sold you a 4cyl Accord as a V6? A dealer? That's very suspicious. I wonder what other illegal things they have done. Maybe the car started out as a V6, but they replaced the motor with a high mileage 4cyl. engine? I 'd be very skeptical of this car. Did you run a Carfax on it before you purchased it?

As far as the sputters and backfires, have you had the chance to get any of the codes read? I had a similar issue on a different model vehicle and it turned out to be nothing but a throttle position sensor. The issue even went as far as causing a fire in the throttle body. I hope this helps restore SOME of your faith in your accord.

The dealer sold it to me as a v6... just checked the vin number on honda owners and it says it was a 4 cyl. No didnt check the car fax... have heard bad things about car fax especially lately.

If the paperwork from the dealer shows a "V6" and the engine and VIN say 4-Cylinder, then you have recourse against the dealer. Might be time to talk to a lawyer or at least the BBB.
