Hey everyone. I'm Tom, and I'm (needless to say) new and wanted to say "Hi" before i barrage you with any of my questions or insights. I own a 1985 Ford LTD Crown Victoria, and just traded in my 2000 Taurus for my first Honda Product, a 1995 Accord LX, and joined because while I know my basic automotive stuff, I'm a lunatic about keeping my cars running right.

I have been a FoMoCo-only guy since I started working on cars when I was 16, and all my knowledge comes from Ford people. I actually work as a parts referencer for Ford, too. I just got sick of not having any options available to me for good long-term durability or gas efficiency (since I live and work in the city), so thus I now own a 4 cyl. 1995 Accord with 78k on the clock.

Not to bombard you right away with questions, but what are some things I should keep an eye on for future basic upgrades or maintenance things to take care of right away having just gotten my car? Are ATF power flushes okay on our cars?

Thanks in advance, and please feel free to let me know if I'm doing anything against the way you guys generally handle yourselves on your board.

Welcome!
At 90k miles you'll want to replace the timing belts (camshaft & balancer shafts). Most people also replace the waterpump at the same time. It's an interference engine, so ifit throws the belt, you risk bending the valves.

Oh yeah, you asked about ATF flushing... Hondas seem to do better with drain/fill rather than power flushing. And use real genuine Honda ATF - it makes a difference.

The torque converter doesn't drain, so you only get about 1/3 of the fluid. If it's real dirty, drive around & drain/fill again maybe even 3 or 4 times until it's clean. About 2.5 quarts each.

Welcome fairplay!!!! First Honda?!? Once you get the car in shape and all maintenance done, you're going to get bored from never having to fix anything or getting stranded on the side of the road! Good choice on the project car!
