road trip toolbox
hey y'all. my girlfriend and i will be driving her 1995 accord 3,000 miles to move her things (no furniture, just things and her small dog) to my place. it's got 220,000 miles on it and we want to be able to at LEAST make it across the country. she'll get work done on it before we leave and get a tune up but i want to keep a simple toolbox with us so i can work on anything unexpected that might happen. so i have three questions:
1) what tools do y'all recommend we bring?
2) what size: sockets/wrenches does honda use? hex keys? torx drivers?
3) do hondas this old have OBD scanner ports?
thanks!

Welcome to HAF
Opinions will vary on this.
Me, if you are not sure of a few things.
A quart or two of oil - a gallon of water - duct tape. A good set of 1/4 drive sockets (8-10-12), maybe 3/8 (14 and 17). Flat head and slotted screw driver, pliers/vice grips and a small adjustable wrench....then throw in a cheap volt meter and hope for the best.
The 95 4 cyl was an ODB-I car so to get codes you just need a paperclip/piece of wire/metal bread tie will work in a pinch to get codes.
Of course give everything a good review before heading out (fluids levels, tire pressure and that)....check fluids when stopping for gas and enjoy the ride.
Don't take this the wrong way.....I had these worries years ago and still do when my youngest goes for a trip. Many of the above items I recently sent him on a day trip to Knoxville and back (~700 miles or so).

Welcome to the forum, 95Hatch
The ex and had had an Accord that had 286K miles on it when we traded it in and still ran like a champ... The year prior to the trade, we made two trips (lived in Louisville) to Florida and back... and two trips to Michigan and back... plus a round-trip to Canada, we never hesitated to drive the Honda, of course we did the maintenance and kept an eye on belts, hoses, etc
Poorman has given you some good advice, I only want to add: drive safe and enjoy your trip
*Take some pics along the way

Duct tape, extra oil and coolant, and a set of metric wrenches. And make sure the spare tire is properly inflated. And if you're driving anywhere the temperature is less than 60 degrees, have blankets and jackets with so you can stay warm while waiting for help to arrive.
