turbo question
can anyone please tell me what i need to build a full turbo. because i heard it is better to build one instead of buying the kit, is that true? i have a 2002 accord 2.3L F23A1 motor on auto trans. so if you could tell me the parts i need that would be a huge help..thanks

RE: turbo question
Well, there should be a thread awhile back that lists all the parts necissary to build an inexpensive turbo system. I think lightshow made it. Anway, as far as building your own turbo being better, I believe so, but there are different sides to each story.
Kit: overpriced you don't get to pick the parts you want warrantee no fitment problems you get almost everything you need Build your own: you do it your own way it can be as cheap or as expensive as you want fitment could be an issue you have to know what your doing before you start buying parts/install it Theres more but, those are some of the major points. As far as what you need, this is what I have off the top of my head. Feel free to add to it as I'm sure I am missing parts: necissary: turbo PCV valve/catch can/breather wastegate (either intergral on the turbo or a remote) turbo manifold (tubular, log style) charge piping and downpipe filter some sort of fuel management and fuel system upgrade (ex:boost dependent FPR+new injectors+tune+fuel pump) new spark plugs (colder) strongly recommended: intercooler blow off valve a knock sensor or MSD ignition master boost gauge optional: tranny cooler (more like recommended for an auto trans though or it will probably die) new radiator manual or electronic boost controller other gauges (ie: fuel pressure) It's 3 in the morning and ironically, I'm on 3 hours of sleep so if something appears off please correct me, but this should get you on the right track. |
RE: turbo question
wow thats alot more than i thought. im comming into a little bit of money and i had planned to blow it all on the turbo. But seeing the list i think i may hold off, or dump it into something else

RE: turbo question
if you search the forum you'll see a TON of information about kits that people here pieced together and you can spend anywhere from $1500.00 to $3000.00 easily to build or buy the kit. So it depends on how much time/money you have but I'm sure it sounds a lot harder than it is. Just do your research first

RE: turbo question
Yeah, as Sir Nasty said, it's really not that bad. Just do a little bit of reading on it and you'll find it's really not all that difficult to understand how everything works. A kit will run you alot, like 3400 bucks for the best turbonetics one, but if you piece your kit together you can do it for so much less.
