Driving in the winter
 

Hey everyone,

I shipped my car here from CA to Boston so I can drive to work. With winter coming soon, I was wondering if there's anything I should do to make sure my 2010 honda accord gets through the winter ok. This is my first time having a car in harsh winter conditions so I'd really appreciate any advice. Should I get snow tires? I keep getting conflicting opinions about that. Should I also change the antifreeze? My car's relatively new: got it in June, 6000+ miles on it. For some reason, I feel that cars from CA are made differently than the ones out because of the cold conditions. Is this true?

We don't have problems in TX, but from what I've read I would want to apply some corrosion protection to underside to mitigate salt corrosion. I have read that waxy oils (spray-on application) work well, but locals would be a better source.

Snow tires are sort of an option. If you have all season tires on it you should be fine, but if you have some sort of summer performance tire than you could run into issues. One thing that I don't think is necessary is studded snow tires. I always see people with them, but they are just over kill.

As far as preparing the car other than that, you could go with some sort of under treatment, whether they help or not I'm not too sure. I have never used one. I just make sure in the spring to really clean the car up well.
