Isuzu Motors America, Inc.
January 30, 2008
Isuzu Motors America, Inc. announced today that effective January 31, 2009, it would discontinue distributing new Isuzu passenger vehicles in North America. The discontinuation of passenger vehicles results from the prospective cessation of production by General Motors Corporation of the Ascender Sport Utility Vehicle, and the i-290 and i-370 pickup trucks.
Although Isuzu will cease supplying passenger vehicles in North America, "we are fully committed to continue providing service support to our customer base and Dealers for years to come" said Terry Maloney, President/COO. Isuzu will continue to honor all product warranties and roadside assistance programs and will maintain its owner-relations call center. In addition, to assure long-term service to its customers, Isuzu will be offering all current, U.S. Isuzu vehicle dealers the opportunity to continue on as service dealerships for Isuzu. "Let me make it crystal clear, Isuzu will discontinue the sales of vehicles only. Our parts and service operation will remain fully functional. We expect the vast majority of our dealers will continue to service our loyal Isuzu customers."

I didn't even know isuzu was still around.

"Let me make it crystal clear, Isuzu will discontinue the sales of vehicles only. Our parts and service operation will remain fully functional. We expect the vast majority of our dealers will continue to service our loyal Isuzu customers."


I hope they hold true to that!

yeah i know someone that had a isuzu, thing was a absolute piece. impossible to keep on the road, no matter what you do it burns oil like crazy.

The sad thing is, GM killed them.

In 03/04 they introduced their 3.5 directed injection v6 that put out 250hp and got respectable fuel economy. Direct injection was not common in regular passanger cars back then, now you are starting to see GM/Cadillac, Lexus all producing direct injection engines.

When they introduced the Ascender, a poorly rebaged GMC Envoy/Trailbazer/Raineer/Bravada/Saab 9-7x, (its really sad to say that the platform they used saw 6 nameplates) that was basically the icing on the cake. The trailblazer was rated the #1 LEAST fun vehicle to drive.

I dont even know where an Isuzu dealer is around here.

On top of that, the I-280(290) and I-350(370) are rebadged Chevy Colorados/GMC Canyons. Some of the most poorly rated small trucks. 5 cylinder engine with worse fuel economy than a v6? what is this? acura in 1992?No wonder why they are withdrawing from the US! They should have used their diesel technology here in their passanger vehicles. If you look globally, in Japan the isuzu trucks have diesel engines that are fuel efficient.
