Someone correct me if I'm wrong... I believe that ceramic brakes take longer to heat up, therefore when they are cold they don't work all that well, one warm they work great. I also think that they last longer too(?)

in my opinion stick with the basics after all its cheaper and you dont have to replace them as much, but if its something that you really want, find out if the dealership offers them, if they do, find out the model number and get them online

well, i mostly want them cause i heard that they reduce sound and brake dust, which are both very annoying to have on your car

here's what other people have said about them
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...9162934AAoT8NK

the website selling the pads says

* Guaranteed to outperform O.E. pads and fit perfectly every time
* Works with O.E. brake systems and ideal for AEM Big Rotor Brake Systems
* Non-ferrous metal compound is non-corrosive, won't deteriorate brake components
* Light colored dust does not show on wheels
* Low squeal properties

so they wont mess up my rotors, or are they lieing?

my brakes are starting to squeal quite a bit lately. we had alot of rain and cold weather so i think that may be the cause.
Or are my brakes due for a change?
and if so , will ceramic really be absolutely quiet?

Ceramic Pads on 02 Accord EXV6

After repeated problems with brake shimmy related to overheated brakes, today I replaced the front rotors and pads on my 2002 Accord EX V6. The rotors were standard replacement rotors from O-Reilly Auto Parts ($27/ea) and pads were Wagner ceramic pads from Advance Auto Parts ($54/set). After installation, I drove the car through 10-20 good stops from moderate speeds of 30-45 mph to seat the pads to the disc. I notices right away that these pads felt much better than ceramics I had tried 5 years ago. The pads were instantly quiet, smooth and effective. After a few good runs down long hills at 50-60 mph with brakes engaged for long periods, I was impressed with how smoothly and quietly the car stopped. In the past, my vented rotors and semi-metallic pads would have shimmied under such braking conditions. I recommend ceramics brake pads for anyone having recurring issues with brake shimmy related to overheating. I may be over 40, but I still like to drive like a 17 year old.

I am running ceramic pads in my 97 Avalon XLS and my 91 Supra Turbo on all 4 corners.

I do a fair amount of Auto X with my Supra. The Avalon is my DD.

I have found that the ceramic pads are a good investment as the braking distance is reduced. Braking distance is night and day and is incredible at higher speeds such as freeways or highways when you may need it the most.

The down side to running ceramic pads is the brake dust. They kick of a very large amount of brake dust and make your wheels look dirt in a short period of time.

Ceramic pads have more friction and will wear faster than your normal pads.

I personally feel it is better to spend a few more dollars on better pads than to go with the cheapest option. Keep in mind, there are plenty of mid grade pads that are good for most people and they way they drive. :D
