Royal Purple oil
 

I have the opportunity to buy 12 quarts of Royal Purple synthetic for our 92 Accord. The price will be $72 ($6 per).

The propaganda says it is great stuff, but I thought I'd ask if anyone here had tried it and, if so, what they thought of it.

I think we've come to the forum consensus that Royal Purple only benefits an engine if it's race or used in severe conditions. If I remember correctly, it's also been said that long term use leads to graphite deposits in your engine.

Speaking of good oil deals... did any snag the CheckerSchucksKragen rebate on Mobil1 a few weeks ago? 5 qts Mobil1 + Mobil1 filter for $20 after rebate? I did.... twice ;D

I run it, all my friends run it, I personally think its amazing stuff. I saw a independent study once that showed wear of pretty much every oil conventional and synthetic and royal purple owned all

when your burning oil royal purple is not for you lol, that stuff burns faster than any other oil out there, that and its so expensive to keep putting a quart in a week, I actually switch back to reg old valvoleen to tone the burning down and not hurt my wallet so much.

one night I went through like 3 quarts of royal purple, drove to teh track, ran like 20 times, drove home, bye bye $21 in oil lol

The micropolishing effect of the moly is pretty good, however the moly has an atomic structure similar to graphite. This can cause a buildup over time that would require a chisel to remove. I was a big fan of their product and still believe that it provides the best lubrication, but with the negative aspects of the AMOUNT of moly contained, I prefer Amsoil ..... moly-free.

Falk, do you know whether molys actual lubricating mechanism is the same as graphite? Graphite relys on surface adsorbtion of water to make the lattice planes slippery. I heard that NASAfigured this outafter using it (unsuccessfully) in space 40-50 years ago.

That stuff has always been too rich for my blood. I'll stick with my trusty old Valvoline ;)
