1998 Accord EX 91k miles - $2,500....Needs work: PICS ADDED!
I have a black 1998 Accord EX, 2.3L VTEC ULEV, automatic with 91,1XX miles that needs a head gasket. Loaded with all the goodies, has a couple small dings and scratches, but looks overall really nice; new rubber on the factory alloys. I can provide pictures and what not if you like. Car has a rebuilt title from an accident at 16k miles in 1999. $2,500 firm. Great deal in a fixerupper. The car is in Vermont. Here are a few pictures of the car...if you'd like more, please let me know and I can email them.

Looks nice. How in the world did it get a blown head gasket with so few miles? I'm just wondering, you may not be a mechanic, so I don't really expect an answer. Good luck in your sale!

RE: 1998 Accord EX 91k miles - $2,500....Needs work
The motor was run very low on oil somehow. It was changed and filled back up, then soon afterward, the car overheated and now will not start. A mechanic looked at it and said there is coolant in 2 cylinders. I don't know how running out of oil can lead to overheating like that, but that is the series of events.....

i live in montreal, just across the border, any idea how far you are from here? How much do you think it would cost to fix? What needs to be done exactly? any other problems? thanks

I would imagine the engine needs to be rebuilt if it was run low of oil and now has coolant in the cylinders. I would probably opt for a replacement engine (should be fairly reasonably priced for a used F23 from a salvage yard.) You just gotta have someone put it in for you if you don't have the tools & know-how.

RE: 1998 Accord EX 91k miles - $2,500....Needs work
That is correct...I would not mess with a rebuild at this point, since it was run low on oil. I would just either find a replacement engine (which I have found, with 119k and a warranty), or get an engine from Japan. The Japanese motors have low mileage from what I understand, and are around $600. The replacement salvage yard motors I have found are in the $300 range. You would just need someone to put it in for you, or do the work yourself.
