CV axle question (kind of)
 

well im working on a 2002 honda accord v6 auto. On the passenger side, in that year the cv axles are the same size so their is this other shaft that the cv goes in to and the this shaft goes in to the transmission. my question is what is that shaft called?

It's called intermediate shaft. There is a carrier bearing on one end that sometimes will fail and cause looseness/vibration.

Most on-line places that sell parts will use drawings from Honda's electronic parts catalog. That intermediate shaft should be on the same picture as the "driveshaft".

thanks guys, but on the transmission side must have a seal. is that seal replaceable or just better to do the whole shaft and the seal. i have just been having a hell of a time stoping the trans leak it has. the car dose not even have 90k on it yet. so i just add fluid all the time about 1/2 qt a week. one more question to those of you that work on a lot of these auto transmissions, this car shifts really hard and will sometimes take a second to shift, but only when the fluid is cold let it get warm and its all fine. other the the fluid being thicker when cold any idea why it does this?

Yes there is a seal on the trans where that intermediate shaft goes in.

Are you using Honda trans fluid?

yes i am using the Z1 stuff, its hard to find but what the owner manual wants. and the only plus of all these leaks is that the fluid looks great so deep red ha. i was reading some where there is like a screen filter to clean and put back in, but the guy that was talking about it didn't seem to know the most about honda (one of those kinda guys that wants to refill a transmission through the dipstick tube ha). my thought was if they are a set of screens (coarse filters) that could be why its little slugish in the morning of if it sits alll day in a parking lot. let me know that you guys think

The DW-1 is the new fluid, works where Z-1 is called for. Most of the time a cold shift issue is from using the wrong fluid, Dex or something like that.

There are some screens on the shift solenoids that you can clean, prob not the issue but who knows :shrug:

Also, really don't want to go there but the auto trans in the 98-02 Accords does not have a good rep.
