Good replacement stock struts for a 98 accord?
I am looking for good stock replacement struts for a 98 accord. I don't need anything for better handling I just want struts equal to what the car came with in terms of quality and ride comfort. Are KYB GR-2 struts a good choice? Also the vehicle has 140k miles, how long do the factory strut mounts last? When should I replace them? The vehicle has never seen road salt.

KYB GR-2 and Koni STR.T are good replacement struts, I'd probably go with Koni's over the KYB though. Tokico also makes a good replacement shock too.
Strut mounts? The front spring and strut sit in a perch that bolts to the engine bay, as well as the rear. The lower portion of the struts front sits in a fork and the rear has a bushing that gets bolted to the rear hub. The parchs and forks should be fine, the only thing I'd replace are the fork and hub bolts, which are about $5-8/ea and you need 4. |
Inspect the top rubber mount for the strut assembly for cracking in the rubber. It doesn't have a bearing for steering (like a McPherson strut) so it's not so much a routine replacement.

Ok cool, so I went ahead and ordered some GR-2 struts. Thanks for the recommendations. I just want to keep this vehicle as stock as possible.

are you happy with them? or haven't you did the job replacement yet?

I got them but haven't installed them yet. I should by next weekend.
