Buying USED studded winter tires

1 Attachment(s)
Someone in my city is trying to get rid of 04 Hankook Studded Winter Tires (195/65R15 91T) with wheels for ~$200. The remaining tread depth is ~10/32". These tires were used on a 2004 Corolla

My questions are:
1. Are these good performance winter tires? Anybody has experience with Hankook tires?
2. Will these wheels fit ok with my Honda Accord 2002 SE? I assume it will be ok as far as I got from the manual (P195/65R15 is recommended). But I just wanna get confirmation from experienced users here

Thanks for looking!

Hi Member..The 1st thing I would do is to check to make sure your state allows studded tires.

First there's the question of the wheels. Toyota Corolla? Bolt pattern? Offset? Check whether the wheels are gonna fit. You want 5-bolts on a 114.3mm circle. About 45mm offset but that doesn't have to be exact.

-------------------------

After a certain time, tires have to have a "date" code on the sidewall. It's a 4-digit number like 2008.
But the number means week & year, so 20th week of 2008.
1112 is 11th week of 2012. Get it?

There's some debate how long you should keep using tires, even if the tread depth is OK. Maybe 6 or 7 years? (just going by memory so don't trust me)

If the rubber begins to deteriorate from age, then you have to worry about throwing the studs out as the tire spins.

Thanks Jim! I'll check those info carefully later especially the date code.
The guy told me he bought them Oct 2010 but hardly used them (use bus instead). I think you're right about the 6-7 yr life span

I got seven years out of my last set of winter tires. By the end of the 6th season, they started to crack so my plan was to just use them for actual snow days last winter and keep my summer tires on for the rest of the time and replace them for this season.

Bold pattern? I think I currently have 4 bolts on my all-season tires

this link confirm it transwheel-steel-wheel-rim-15x6-4x45-bolt-pattern

From this picture, I can't tell the bold pattern for the listed wheels
https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...ine=1400867588
but from this link, it's seemed that they used 5 bolt pattern

Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Somehow I thought 2003 Accord which all versions were 5-bolt.

Anyway, that photo sure looks like the tires are mounted on 5-bolt rims. You could buy anyway just to get the tires, but that makes it less of a good bargain.

ps.
Tirerack says 2004 Corolla uses 5 x 100mm bolt circle. And a lesser offset of 35mm to 40mm.

Thanks Jim! Since the tires would be 4 yr old next winter, I decided not to buy them. I'll look elsewhere later this fall
