Has anyone put a larger tire on a stock 2008 Rim?

I did a search and couldn't find anything but I want to know the following.

I have a 2008 V-6 sedan with 225/50-17's and would like to keep the stock wheels but would like a little more rubber on the road. What size tire can I go up to to make the tread wider without messing up the speedometer or being too wide for the rim??

Thanks!!

245/45 R17 is close in diameter.
But you'll want to check clearance from the inboard & outboard sidewalls, against anything like fenders, shocks, springs, etc. You'll need 10mm of extra space, & remember the wheel moves around a lot with compression of the suspension bushings, and sidewalls flex a lot on cornering.

Or go to TireRack.com & see if they list that as an acceptable size??

That's the size I was thinking of.... I will take a look at tire rack as you suggested. I guess another thing I could do is to measure the current clearances I have now and see if it will be close.

I went to Discount Tire and talked to the tire guy and he suggested that the 245 might be pinched on the rim and cause some excessive center tire wear. His recommendation is a 235/45-17 which will be a little smaller in circumference but he thinks it will wear better.... I really want to put that 245 on but I'd like to find some more hard numbers on if it will fit or not. I kind of got the feeling he was just shooting from the hip.

Well, yeah, but unfortunately all I can do is shoot from the hip. I've never owned a 2008 Accord so I hope you hear from someone who has actually tried it.

Went and did a little further investigation with one of our Sponsors, Tire Rack. They are recommending a 235/50-17. They said it will only be 1mph off and fill in the wheel well a little better. They said the 245 is probably too wide for the 7 1/2" wheel and that a 245 is better suited for a 8" wide wheel. Maybe that is the route I'll go.

I've been buying stuff from TireRack for over 25 years & never gotten bad advice from them.

Right off the bat the person I was talking to seemed to have a really good feel for what worked and what didn't. I am impressed and will take their advice.

What's the verdict?

Mike did you ever put the 235/50r17 on your accord? I was thinking about doing the same thing and I found your forum... Thanks
