should i stick with my current sidewall height and lower the car?

the reason that im asking this is because right now my wheels are 225/45/17 and the 45 seems kinda big for 17 inch rims, the lower profile tires would look better, and handle better on the car too, but the only problem is that if i do that, my tire gap will be much bigger and lowering my car 2 inchs wouldnt look as nice as sticking to the 45 sidewall

so my plan is to either stick with my 225/45/17 and lower my car about 2 inches or get 225/40/17 and then lower it 2 inches

i currently have about a 3 inch tire gap, but i would expect the tire gap to become 4-4.5 if i get the 225/40/17's

RE: should i stick with my current sidewall height and lower the car?

I would say decreasing the tire gap does more for the overall look of a car than anything else. A tire gap of no more than an inch makes the tire fit very smoothly with the curve of the fender. From your pictures you can see there is about an inch along the sides, and then it increases to your 3 inches at the top. Lowering it so the gap is the same size all around is a very clean look. Look at any tuner magazine and almost all the cars, regardless of how low the tire profile is, have very minimal gap that maintains a constant width.
