Tire Specs

Ok i feel stupid asking this but whatever. For example the size spec is..215/60/17. what do the first 2 sets of numbers mean or stand for? i figured the last one stood for the diameter of the rim. I am looking for rims and i am thinking of getting 16" for my 95 coupe. the stock is 15" and the tires that i can get through the website for the tire/rim kit is 205/50/16. I want a more lower profile tire but is that spec i listed a really thin tire or thick. thanks for the help.

RE: Tire Specs

the first number is the widthof the tire in mm, the second number is the aspect ratio (height of the tire with respect to the width). go to how stuff works and look up tires, or just goggle tire size, and you'll find a lot of info.

RE: Tire Specs

One thing to keep in mind is that the size is for comparison purposes only. Cheapie 225/50s are going to actually be narrower than Michelin or Pirelli or Yokes 225/50s, & even the expensive ones won't be exactly the same. The sizes are a "loose" standard.
