Winter tires

We just had a major sleet/snow storm in the mid West. I was fortunate enough to had just installed Bridgestone WS70 Blizzaks on all four wheels. The car handles great on the slick stuff. I even intentionally tried to get the wheels to break loose, but she never lost traction. I had the previous Blizzak WS60's which were also very good, but the new 70's are even better. I bought them at Tirerack.com

We got a lot of snow out here in Kentucky along with ice. I was lucky enough to get barely used Hankook Optimo 727's and they are fantastic in this weather.

The Firestone Winterforce and the Bridgestone WS70 have a very similar tread pattern.

I used Blizzaks in Anchorage. Way better than all seasons or studded tires. If you have a little $$$ Nokian tires are much less known but it doesnt get much better than Nokian

I've found Blizzaks to be very soft & squirrily on dry pavement. I've been using Dunlop WinterSport and like them. Less traction in deep snow but more solid when the roads are clear. That's a trade-off I liked, but might not be everyone's choice.

Had Winterforce tires (early, before Firestone began putting their own name on the sidewall) on a 2007 Civic and they're really good. Not the mushy feel of Blizzaks, so I suspect there's a difference in the rubber compound.
