So we have some extra tint laying around and I decdied to try and tint the inner tail lights just to see how it looks.  I figured tinting the outer ones that show braking and signaling would be illegal correct?  I only did one but how do you guys think it will look if I just do the two inside lights?  The tint is actually holding up pretty well, if I redid it w/o wrinkles is there a way to make it permanent?  I dont want to spen $10 on Nightshades and have to wait 2 weeks for it....plus I really like the shade of this tint.  So whatcha guys think?  Opinions, ideas, help?

I personally think the spray on tint would come out better.  I also think that it will look a little awkward only on the inside one.

it is illegal, but it all depends on how leniant your police force is, i drive through new hampshire no problem, but my friend got pulled over in mass.

If you are tinting it to get rid of that chrome look, what about coloring or tinting the back face, thus leaving the lens covers clear? That way the light would still shine through bright and remain legal.

i sprayed mine, its pretty much just like spray painting, except you have to apply a couple of coats.  I think it is techincally illegal everywhere, it just depends on if the cops in your area like to enforce it or not.

all you really need is a bottle of black spray and 2 bottles or the large bottle of clear coat to give it that nice shinny look... clear coat is the key here.

Its called NiteShade for the spray on tint.  It allows more light to come through.

So it is still illegal even if I just did the inner lights?  I thought you couldnt do the main driving lights, as in brake, headlights, etc.

As for tinting the actual chrome...I would LOVE to do that, but I would not be comfortable tearing into the housing...as its not really all that safe of a project ...plus if I mess it up I have to go back to stock or spend more $$$

You could just get a bottle of black spray paint, some clear, and paint the actual chrome piece on the inside and still have the clear lens just like Shadow1992 said.  I think that might look pretty good.

for my old car, i used to spray the amber part of my tail lights red with hobby paint... it's really cheap and easy to use... just make sure you apply 2 or 3 coats of clear coat... personally i like the black tint bc the chrome look died along with big body kits and 5" exhaust tips 3 years ago...

i would tint the tail lights black all throughout...

How would I go about getting into my tail lights? Black spray paint wise...I dont want to use that because I like how the tint is still somewhat see through and the black would be just to dark.

you spray it on the outside of the tail light.. only way to spray the inside of the tail light is to take it out, put it in the oven to heat the sealant, remove it, paint it, back in the oven to heat sealant, reseal, and install back into the car.. waste of time.. spray on the outside.. might have to redo it every few months but worth the hassel...  i say for every one coat of black, you use two coats of clear...

here in nebraska the tint is fine so long as you can see the brake lights clearly through it and still tell what the red and white/yellows are so obviously cant be super dark(i called the police non emergency #)

I agree tinting is cool but safety should always come first. Think about it.... Your brake lights are usually the only thing that might get someones attention when you have to brake abruptly or even normally for that matter.

Is it worth the chance of not only killing yourself but someone else in your car or even someone else mayber even an innocent child in a car you might happen to get knocked into as a result of another driver not seeing you?

I'm not trying to play the devils advocate here but these things should be considered when you compromise not only your safety, but the safety of others.

I couldn't bear the the thought of being responsible for the death of someone in a situation I created that possibly could have been avoided. People get killed everyday from being rearended.

^I agree.  I'd like to tint the chrome part of the tail lights. Is there any easier way then in the oven?  What if I just removed the clear outer section off and left it off?

Take them to a graphics shop and have them overlay vinyl over the chrome. Shouldn't be too expensive.

^So they would heat up the tail lights, remove the cover and do that?  I've never heard of one doing so.  I might check into it.

i used something called NiteShade from O'Reily's Auto Parts store and it worked great. when i have time ill take a pic of them(they are my stock lights) and you can see every color of light as bright and colorful as it was(brake=red, blinker=yellow, backup=white) looks really good too
